LOSERS - Li Ka-shing is Asia's richest person and 18th in the world - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included
In the battle of the Asian mega-tycoons, Softbank founder Masayoshi Son has taken a stumble, with Hong Kong's Li Ka-shing taking his place as Asia's richest person. Forbes magazine's annual list of the world's richest people found that Li, whose companies include conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa and Cheung Kong, was the region's richest man with a worth of US$12.6 billion ($24.8 billion).
His overall world ranking was 18th. Japan's Son, on the other hand, slipped all the way to eight richest person in Asia (and 55th in the world).
His worth shrank to US$5.6 billion, almost a third of what it was a year ago, as the bursting of the internet bubble cut the share price of Softbank, Japan's biggest internet investor.
